Every year — in partnership with local organizations — Write On The River is proud to sponsor multiple competitions for local writers. Since 2008, over 100 writers have been honored and more than $20,000 in cash prizes have been awarded.

We are once again thrilled to present the 2025 Writers Competition:

18th Annual Writers Competition

Winter is a fine time to hunker down and hone your writing or to create something brand new. Here’s a bonus: submitting your newly pruned and polished piece to the 2026 Writers Competition offers you a chance at local fame and glory and guarantees you a team of discerning readers.

Write On The River, in partnership with the Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center, will once again award a total $1,200 to six winning writers of original fiction or nonfiction prose, on any theme or subject. You may submit either a complete work or beginning pages, under 1000 words.

Anyone residing in Eastern Washington is eligible to participate in the competition. Over 100 writers have been honored with $20,000 in cash awards since the annual competition’s start in 2008, and Write On the River is proud to continue the tradition.

The fee is $25 for each entry, or $45 for an entry plus three written judges’ critiques. Online manuscript submission opens January 1, 2026 and closes at midnight, February 15, 2026.
